Frequently Asked Questions

How will students be paired up with mentors?

Once an application form is filled out, the students will be paired with mentors with consideration of mutual interests, preferences, and compatible scheduling. More information can be found here.

Are these lessons open for beginners without any exposure to the instrument?

Unfortunately, we are not open for students without any prior learning experience. As musicians, we do not consider virtual learning to be the best way to get started with an instrument. Once the COVID-19 outbreak is over, we recommend that you seek for one-on-one, face-to-face lessons that can lay a more solid and professional foundation for your child. Thank you for your understanding.

Could students already studying with private teachers also apply for a virtual mentor?

The goal of our project is to help young musicians in their musical journeys with an extra boost of encouragement, whether students are already working with separate teachers or not. Mentors will always be available to any student wanting extra help with musical learning. However, please do not take us as a replacement for your private lessons.

We also have no intention in interfering with normal private lessons – we seek collaboration. Please review our “Coming Soon” section under the “About” page for information on how we plan to collaborate with teachers.

Would any of these sessions be charged?

All of our high school mentors are volunteers; therefore, no money should be exchanged for these virtual lessons. If you are in the position to do so, we would encourage you to make a donation to an organization/cooperation in need of aid during the COVID-19 crisis.

We would also like to direct our families to our collaborators’ website, Pro Musica Chamber Players. With their weekly chamber music videos, Pro Musica supports the nonprofit organization Feeding America®, a nationwide network that helps food banks and serves over 40 million people each year. During times of difficulty, it is not only necessary to support our immediate community, but to aid the greater population. Virtuosi is an active supporter of Pro Musica, and we hope to help their powerful mission.
